Siblings are champion
28 December 2006
A GIRL from Weston, England who was
sent to judo class to burn off some excess energy has been crowned a
British champion.
Georgia Wood, aged eight (8), won the National
Judo Championship in the under 25kgs (55 lbs) class, and
her older brother Zach Wood, aged twelve(12), was runner-up in the
under 30kgs (66
lbs) class.
The siblings started judo together 18
months ago when their mum Lorain Wood sent them to classes at the
Sakura Bana Judo Club at Herons' Moor Community Primary
School.
The pair made such rapid progress that they were entered
into the National Judo Championships held in High Wycombe,
Buckinghamshire.
In a tough competition Georgia beat
seven(7) other contestants to win the gold medal and title of
national champion. Zach won six(6) of his seven fights to secure a
bronze medal.
Just two weeks later Georgia and Zach were entered
into the Reading League and both came away with gold first place
trophies in the team
contest.
